Bridges

What is a Bridge?

A dental bridge is a permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. The bridge is made by joining an artificial tooth to adjacent teeth on both sides of the gap. A dental bridge is an excellent option for treating tooth loss. A dental bridge restores the smile, restores the ability to chew and further prevents the remaining teeth from drifting out of their proper positions. There are four types of bridges, which include traditional dental bridges, cantilever bridges, maryland bridges and implant supported bridges. If you are a candidate for dental bridges, one of these four bridges  will be recommended to you based on your specific dental needs.

Procedure of Bridges

Dental bridges rests on teeth which are on either side of the missing teeth. . These teeth are referred to as abutment teeth, which anchor the false tooth otherwise known as the pontic and is placed to fill the gap. The abutment teeth are prepared for crown placement. Impressions or 3D scans of the teeth are taken and sent to the lab. A temporary bridge is put in place until the final dental bridge is ready. The prepared dental bridge is then cemented into place.
